motivation to learn, and even affect their school
performance. Reading achievement is critical to
success in school, and reading difficulties will impact
every facet of a child's academic performance. This is
why early reading is so important.
Aside from academic performance, a child who has
learned to read at an early age is able to enjoy and
appreciate books of their own choice without being
dependent on adults. This reinforces their self-
confidence and self-reliance. Being able to read and
comprehend what they are reading makes an
exceptional alternative to sitting in front of the
television. Watching too much TV can and most
often do lead to the child relying on television as the
main source of entertainment, and it becomes
increasingly difficult to develop an interest for
reading.
