On the slopes near the pond, a pair of lapwings
scurried around. Were they protecting their ‘nest’,
a small depression in the ground with eggs
that looked just like the earth? I think so, because
every time any person came anywhere near,
they would burst into noisy flight with a high
pitched call of ‘did-you-do-it, did-you-do-it’.
